چکیده

Methods Six brands of disposable non-woven polypropylene drapes were tested. A latex glove was used as a negative control and a woven cotton drape was used as a positive control. For each drape, a rodac plate was inoculated with 10 colony-forming units / ml of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC strain 6538 and incubated at 37°C for 24 h to obtain confluent growth. Thereafter, each drape was placed between the incubated rodac plate and an inverted rodac plate with a weight of 400 gram placed thereon for 30 minutes. Subsequently, the inverted rodac plate was incubated for 24 h at 37°C and inspected for growth of S. aureus.

Bacterial colonization of the skin following aseptic preoperative preparation and impact of the use of plastic adhesive drapes.

Surgical site contamination, for example, with coagulase-negative staphylococci, probably derives from both the patient's own skin flora and those of the surgical team. Despite preoperative antiseptic preparation with chlorhexidine solution, complete sterilization of the skin is not possible and gradual recolonization will occur. Plastic adhesive drape is an established method used to prevent d...

Comparison of three distinct clean air suits to decrease the bacterial load in the operating room: an observational study

BACKGROUND Lowering air-borne bacteria counts in the operating room is essential in prevention of surgical site infections in orthopaedic joint replacement surgery. This is mainly achieved by decreasing bacteria counts through dilution, with appropriate ventilation and by limiting the bacteria carrying skin particles, predominantly shed by the personnel. The aim of this study was to investigate...
